Job Description
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking a Land Development Engineer for its **Culpeper District** to assist with the administration of land development, permits and subdivision inspection and acceptance for the Louisa area. The incumbent will network with local government officials, developers, consultants, and VDOT staff to assess the soundness of designs and the impacts of land development applications. Will perform technical review of engineering plans such as site plan, subdivision, roadway, and utility plans. Interprets land use and commercial entrance permit applications and assists in the issuance and inspection/quality control of permits for work occurring within VDOT right of ways.

## Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of site plan & subdivision plan review and land development principles with demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles to resolve technical issues. Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences.
Skill in the use of computers, software applications and a valid Virginia Driver's License are required.
## Preferred Qualifications
Degree in civil engineering with progressively responsible engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, or experience with supervision and project management in the application of transportation projects which demonstrates the ability to perform the job.
EIT or PE License or ability to obtain preferred. DCR certification as Plan Reviewer or ability to attain.
Knowledge of traffic engineering, roadway & drainage design and construction, VDOT SSAR, and VDOT Land Use Permit process a plus.
## Special Requirements
Valid Driver's License required. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a DMV and Fingerprint based criminal history records check, references and work history will be verified by the Agency. Required to work in emergency situations, to include weekends, holidays, and after normal hours; assignments may vary based on business needs. Overnight travel may be required.
This position is designated as essential and as such, all duties associated with this position are required during planned maintenance operations as well as emergency situations, which may include, but are not limited to inclement weather, heavy traffic conditions, disaster response, and emergency operations, sometimes outside normal hours. VDOT will determine when essential positions are required.
