Job Description
Southeastern Virginia Training Center is seeking a Speech Therapist. Seeking someone who is person centered, willing to contribute to our "center of excellence" philosophy, and enjoys working with the ID/DD population in an ICF environment.
This position will evaluate the communicative function of individuals assigned, assess referred individuals' needs for routine communication programs, provide therapy as ordered by the physician, and train staff to implement and integrate communicative functions as a strategy. This individual will function as a member of the Nutrition Management Team and performs dysphagia and pneumonia screenings.
This position will be responsible for completing assessments of speech parameters including articulation, voice and fluency.
This position will complete language evaluations in the areas of receptive, expressive, and pragmatic language.
This individual will train staff to implement routine communication programs and monitors progress. This individual will develop, modify and provide comprehensive nutritional management in-service training to all staff.
## Minimum Qualifications
* Requires a Master's Degree from an accredited college or University in Speech-Language Pathology and hold a valid Speech Language Pathology licensure issued by the Virginia Board of Health Professionals, Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. .
* Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate results of communication/speech pathology programs.
* Ability to perform and interpret diagnostic and screening procedures for communication and dysphagia/nutritional management disorders.
* Ability to operate diagnostic equipment and communication devices.
* Ability to interact effectively with individuals, staff and other team members.
* Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
* Knowledge of and ability to utilize appropriate application of augmentative communication devices.
* Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
* Demonstrate an ability to prioritize workload appropriately and manage time effectively.
* Ability to interact on a physical level with individuals with intellectual disabilities and to perform repetitive motion to include standing, reaching, lifting, walking, and bending.
## Preferred Qualifications
* Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, including those that are dually diagnosed, autism spectrum disorders, and behavioral challenges preferred.
* Experience in providing services in speech and language to adults with sensory, motor and/or cognitive disabilities.
* Previous experience working in an ICF, Hospital, and Private Practice or Long Term Care facility preferred.
## Special Requirements
AN FBI background check, drug screening and Child Protective Services/Central Registry search will be required prior to employment.
